Customer Profile

Scott at May's Sport Center in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin has purchased several Gastesters over the years to tune motorcycles and ATVs before they leave the shop. They also sell and install a jet kit and the Gastester helps them tune the low speed setting for optimum performance. Scott said that Gastester is a cost effective alternative to 4-5 gas analyzers. Thanks Scott.

Eezibleed Instructions

Remove the vehicle's reservoir cap and select the appropriate screw cap and connect it to Eezibleed as shown in the diagram. Then connect to the reservoir

Check the pressure in the tire to be used for bleeding (See Note A) and connect the Eezibleed tire connector. Pressure test the system for air leaks at the reservoir cap, etc. Cure any leaks before proceeding. To reduce the amount of fluid used in replacing all the fluid in the system, partially drain the vehicle’s reservoir by opening one bleed nipple, at this point. This reduces mixing of old and new fluid.

If all seals are airtight, disconnect the tire connector and fill the Eezibleed pressure vessel with fluid (see Note C.). Then replace the pressure vessel into the Eezibleed system placing it so it will remain vertical and not be disturbed during bleeding.

Pressurize Eezibleed using the spare wheel at 20 psi. max. by connecting the air line to the tire valve. (This pressure should not be exceeded for efficient bleeding).

Connect the bleed tube to the bleed nipple furthest from the master reservoir (as in the sequence usually found in the handbook).

With a correct size spanner, open the bleed valve until the fluid caught in the container is clean and air free. Then retighten the valve.

It is important to open the valve sufficiently to ensure there is no restriction at that point.

After doing this in the first valve, repeat the operation on all the valves in sequence.

The Eezibleed pressure vessel should hold enough fluid to complete the bleeding operation. If the level in the pressure vessel approaches the minimum level line, disconnect from the tire and refill, then proceed again.

When all the lines have been bled in this way, disconnect the air line from the road wheel Before removing Eezibleed from the master reservoir.

Finally replace the master reservoir cap after making sure the air hole is clear.

Additional Notes

On some uncommon systems.

1. If the outlet from the master cylinder is not above the inlet it is possible for a pocket of air to remain. Most of this will be removed by pumping the pedal but the best way is to raise one end of the vehicle to ensure that the outlet is at the highest point. (The pedal can still be pumped once or twice during bleeding with Eezibleed, if raising the vehicle is not possible).

2. Whether bleeding by conventional or pressure methods the following tips may be of assistance in difficult cases.

If the bleed nipple is not at the top of the wheel cylinder, it s necessary to ensure that the cylinder is in the closed position during bleeding I.e. When the brake adjustment acts in the center of the shoo this should be released before bleeding to allow the cylinder to return. When the brake adjustment operates on one end of the shoe this should be tightened before bleeding to return the cylinder to a closed position.

Always open the bleed nipple fully when using Eezibleed to ensure that there is no restriction, this will allow the cylinder to return to the closed position as (unlike when using the pumping method) air cannot be sucked back in past the threads.

Divided/Dual Line Systems

  • Tandem master cylinders. Some systems require that both lines be bled simultaneously (usually one front and one rear wheel). In this case open both nipples and control the flow by connecting/disconnecting the tire connector.
  • Tandem reservoirs, and slave servo. Consult the manufacturer's manual to determine which reservoir foods the master cylinder and which the slave servo.
  • Bleed systems fitted with a Vacuum Servo. Exhaust the servo before connecting Eezibleed by repeated applications of the brakes without the engine running, unless otherwise advised by the vehicle’s manufacturer.
The instructions opposite also apply when bleeding the hydraulic system, which operates the clutch. However, since there is usually only one bleed valve located on the slave cylinder, it is only necessary to release this to bleed out the air after fitting Eezibleed to the master reservoir.

Should the level of fluid in the pressure vessel approach the line marked near the bottom at any time, disconnect the air line from the road wheel and refill the vessel with clean fluid. Reconnect the air line and carry on with the procedure.

The vessel should be kept as vertical as possible. Finally, release the pressure from Eezibleed by removing the connector from the road wheel. Before removing the Eezibleed cap from the reservoir.

Assembly of Reservoir caps.

The nominal sizes given are a measurement across the outside diameter of the neck of the reservoir (inc. thread).

Where the Special Screw Caps still do not cater for a particular reservoir opening, good use of Eezibleed can still be made by the following method.

1. Drill a 1" (10mm) hole in the existing cap on the vehicle reservoir.

Where a vent hole is provided this should be blocked from inside the cap or the drilling should be made through it.

2. Link this drilled out cap into the Eezibleed system using the brass fittings provided.

3. Use the spare wheel at a reduced pressure of no more that 20 psi and proceed with the bleeding operations. It is even more important if using this method to assure yourself before introducing fluid into the Eezibleed that you have an airtight seal at all points. Pressures as low as 10 psi can usually be used quite satisfactorily.

4. After the job is done the hole in the Reservoir cap can be closed by means of a 1" (10mm) Blanking Plug (pierced to ensure that there is a clear air hole) which most accessory shops sell very cheaply.

CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN IN USING THIS KIT.

FIRST - Read the Instructions carefully.

SECOND - Beware that broken fluid contains chemicals which are corrosive and can be an Irritant.

Keep it out of reach of children. k can be harmful H swallowed. N this happens consult a doctor (or hospital out-patients department). Show them the original container in which the brake fluid is sold.

Avoid skin and eye contact with the fluid. If this happens flush with water.

If fluid splashes on vehicle paint rinse off at once with plenty of water.

GOOD IDEAS WHEN WORKING WITH EEZIBLEED:

- Wear a pair of protective goggles.

- Keep a bucket of water near where you are working.

- Pre test with no fluid In Eezibleed before you start to bleeding the brakes or clutch.

Cap Applicability

Metal 1" - for Lockheed systems 27mm Volkswagon

Metal 2%" - for metal Girling reservoirs

Plastic 44/45mm/l%" - for metal Girling and all A.T.E. systems

(N.B. Fit controlled by seal - see cap for details). Metal 46mm - for plastic Girling reservoirs 55mm Simca/some Peugeot only.

Plastic 64mm - for plastic Girling reservoir.

Seven seals are provided. A seal must be in place when the cap is in use.

Please read the whole leaflet before starting work.

Important Notes

A. Before using Eezibleed the system should be pressure tested at a slightly higher pressure than used for bleeding - without fluid in Eezibleed. It is recommended that no more than 20 psi is used for bleeding.

B. The Eezibleed Pressure Vessel cap should not be overtightened. Make sure the seal is flat in the cap before use. Screw the cap on until contact with the seal is felt then no more than 'I" turn more.

C. Fresh fluid of the correct grade should be used.

D. Dirt, cleaning solvents, mineral oils or water will damage or impair the performance of your brakes or clutch. Contact with these substances should be avoided.

E. You will need a container to catch the fluid drained from the system. A wide based jar is ideal.

F. Brake fluid is harmful to paint work. To avoid damage ensure the Pressure Vessel and container catching the old fluid is placed safely and vertically and away from paint work. Also that caps are screwed on sufficiently (without overtightening) to seal correctly.

The biggest problem in fitting Eezibleed in earlier years (especially up to say 1980) was finding a reasonable selection of caps to cover the majority of cars. This was aggravated by vehicle manufacturers (fitting different reservoirs to the same model of car) and by brake system manufacturers (seeming not to supply reservoirs of consistent neck size). This was only overcome in more recent years by the inclusion of seven caps in the kit.

However since the late 1980's a very wide range of vehicles is fitted with the 44/45mm caps.

The Multipurpose cap was developed some years ago in the hope of providing a "universal' fit cap, this hope proved futile as it is not suitable for small or very large sizes. However it has proved useful on many Japanese cars (Nissan, Honda/Rover, Suzuki) where a non-screw (bayonet fitting style) cap is provided on the reservoir and whose neck is not more than 67 mm (2 5/8 inches) in diameter. It is held in place with straps which must be able to pass under the reservoir.

We advise users of Eezibleed to reduce the pressure if the seal is doubtful, but anyway to test for a seal before using fluid in Eezibleed. The idea being if an airtight seal is achieved a fluid seal will also be achieved - better to spray air on paint work rather than corrosive brake fluid. Brake fluid does not remove paint on contact and can be flushed with water to avoid damage.

Some French Renaults used a 72mm cap which we have never provided. Other Renaults are fitted by 44/45mm. Renaults often had thin walled reservoirs not recommended for high tire pressure.

Some American cars and Toyotas use a cylindrical reservoir (with a clip on cap) which we have no means of fitting.

The list of caps mentions whether they are metal or plastic. It does not follow that a metal cap is intended for a metal reservoir or vice versa.
