Valve clearance is easy to adjust on all push rod engines or over head valve engines with top adjustment. Clikadjust makes the job even easier and absolutely precise.

This essential clearance adjustment ensures valves (both inlet and outlet) open and close correctly resulting in better engine performance. Too little clearance goes unnoticed until valves fail to close and compression and power are lost. This can burn valves causing costly replacements or even causing an engine fire. Too great clearance though not so dangerous results in noise, lost performance and driver irritation.

Instructions for using Clikadjust:

Remove the rocker cover and determine the adjustment order from a shop manual for your vehicle.

1. Using the Clikadjust spanner handle slacken the tappet lock nut by turning anti clockwise.

2. Press built-in screw driver down gently and locate in slot of adjustment screw of tappet. Tune the adjustment knob on the Clikadjust clockwise until a load click is heard (or felt).

3. Now turn the Clikadjust adjustment knob back anti clockwise slowly counting the clicks until the correct adjustment is achieved.

Method to Find the Number of Clicks Required:

This method is exact for all types of tappets (that is equal and unequal rocker arms and all types of thread). The method uses feeler gauges in order to determine the number of clicks required for a particular type of tappet and a particular clearance. Once this number of clicks is known there is no further need of feeler gauges. This procedure which should be carried out for both intake and exhaust valves, if the setting or tappet is different.

The first time that Clikadjust is used on a particular type of car back off the tappet adjustment and insert a thick feeler gauge of about .010 inches or .25mm in the gap between the valve stem and the rocker. The exact thickness of this initial feeler gauge is not important, it is simply used in order to provide a level surface between the valve stem and the rocker.

Apply Clikadjust to the tappet, screwing it down until the load clicks are heard.

Back-off Clikadjust counting the clicks, until a feeler gauge of the required tappet clearance can be inserted in addition to the .010 inch feeler gauge. For instance, if the required setting is .014 inches, count the clicks between .010 inches and .024 inches. This is then the number of clicks required to set that particular valve clearance and this number of clicks should be noted for future use.

Remove the .010 inch feeler gauge and use Clikadjust to set the valve clearance, and in the normal way as described above.
